Buenos Aires, April 11 (NA) — A 30-year-old Colombian criminal was detained in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, accused of belonging to the so-called "band of false tennis players", an organization that posed as athletes to gain access to buildings and steal apartments with cloned keys.
According to the police report accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the detainee had an active international arrest warrant issued by Court 29 of Bogotá for the crime of aggravated qualified theft. Therefore, he was made available to Interpol after the procedure.
The suspect was arrested at 1900 San José Street by personnel from the Robbery and Theft Division of the City Police, which was carrying out investigative tasks in the area.
The investigation began after a robbery committed in January in a building in the Villa Urquiza neighborhood. According to the investigation, the man was identified from the analysis of security cameras and the exploration of public profiles on social networks. In addition, he had a criminal record for robbery and violation of restrictive measures.
The footage had captured him in January along with other accomplices, dressed in sports clothing and with tennis racket cases in their possession, as they entered a building in Villa Urquiza using a cloned electronic key. Once inside the apartment, the criminals forced the locks of unoccupied homes to steal various valuable items.
After more than two months of investigation and surveillance, the suspect was located and finally intercepted in Constitución. The National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 11, under the acting judge Ariel Lijo, intervened, with the participation of Secretariat 21 of Dr. Antise, which ordered the detention of the accused and his accommodation at an Interpol headquarters of the Federal Police, due to the active international warrant against him.
